The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a general English language proficiency test.
Test takers can demonstrate their proficiency in English by taking the CELPIP Exam. The exam evaluates a test-English taker’s proficiency in a range of real-world settings, including chatting with friends, reading newscasts, and interpreting and responding to written materials. It does this in a clear, accurate, and precise manner.
The CELPIP GENERAL and CELPIP GENERAL LS tests are the two different kinds of CELPIP tests.
The four skills that are evaluated on the CELPIP general test are speaking, reading, and listening. You must read the prompt or case in each section before submitting your response. Any authorized location worldwide is where you can take the CELPIP General exam.
Speaking and Listening are the two skills that are assessed on the CELPIP General LS test. The CELPIP General test has two identical portions. Only authorised testing facilities in Canada provide the CELPIP General LS test for citizenship applicants.
How long is the CELPIP test?
The CELPIP General test is three (3) hours long. Each skill has an allocated time as follows:
- Listening: 47 to 55 minutes
- Reading: 55 to 60 minutes
- Writing: 53 to 60 minutes
- Speaking: 15 to 20 minutes
Keep an eye on the time! The test session lasts for the same amount of time for each candidate, therefore if you are running late or need to use the restroom, that time will be lost and cannot be made up in any way.
The CELPIP General LS test is one (1) hour and ten (10) minutes long. The time allocated to each skill is the following:
- Listening: 47 – 55 minutes
- Speaking: 15 – 20 minutes
